It was once famously said that great photography comes from a “depth of feeling, not depth of field”.
Nothing could be more true than for Torch Run’s award-winning photographer and documentary maker, Peter Blakeman.
In ten years of volunteering with LETR, it has been Peter’s depth of feeling and artistry that has helped contribute to an extraordinary library of 10,000 photos, all highlighting the individual efforts and abilities of our athletes.
And he’s not bad on the technical front, either.
His unique ability to “see” the athlete and instinctively recognise the depth of their achievement, no matter how small, is exceptional.
LETR legend and friend of Peter, Mick Olsen, says it best:
“Through his remarkable skill behind the lens, Peter has provided an enduring sporting legacy for our Special Olympians, ensuring that their incredible journeys with Special Olympics and the Torch Run are forever immortalised in stunning photographs,” he says.
“Today, we want to recognise Peter for his unwavering dedication, exceptional commitment, and incredible creative sensitivity throughout the past decade. We are immensely grateful for his tireless efforts in documenting these monumental moments that inspire us all. His passion knows no bounds.”
In fact, Mick reckons Peter would turn up to “photograph the opening of a cupboard door” if asked by Torch Run or Special Olympics!
Please join LETR in applauding one of the nicest, most collaborative and talented human beings around. Thank you, Peter Blakeman. Thank you for your time, thank you for your remarkable insights and thank you for your contribution to the Special Olympics community. Most of all we thank you for your dedication to our amazing athletes and to the power of sports to ignite joy, determination, and inclusivity.
