Alpine athletes smash through disappearing snowline

The snow was melting, the hail was pelting and the ski season was fast evaporating but it was not enough to keep LETR’s snowsports ambassadors from missing the Mt Buller Interschools Skiing Championships with our Multiclass alpine athletes.

LETR’s Trelawney “Tiny” Dewe, Rachel Kelly and Dean Earp joined Senior Constables Ryan Wassink and Andrew Kauffman to put the poor snow conditions aside and launch a rowdy Torch Run around the Buller Village.

And rowdy it was!!

What the diminutive Trelawney lacks in height, she makes up for in might as her Torch Run chant – echoed loudly by the athletes – boomed around the Mt Buller resort.

As part of the fun, the athletes received a special “good luck” message from Police Comms via the police radio – very cool – and then had the chance to hop into the back of the police Divisional van – quite the popular choice– or sit behind the wheel.

And that was day one! The lucky LETR crew spent the next two days carving up the mountain with our gnarly multiclass skiers before cheering them on from the sidelines at the all-important race.

Conditions were not great and LETR could not be prouder of our brave and resilient skiers. They never gave up.

Fingers crossed for a long and powdery season in 2024.
