Support For Victoria Police Employees

Available 7th July 2025 onwards

Are you a carer of an immediate family member with an intellectual disability and/or autism?

If you are a past or present serving member of Victoria Police, or a current employee (VPS) of Victoria Police, you are eligible for LETR support.

How can we support you to support those that matter most?

Special Olympics Australia commenced fifty years ago and their programs, initiatives and clubs have grown! We support all of their goals in our own strategic plan and three critical areas are support, athletes and our people. All things that our own community can benefit from. As strong advocates for Special Olympics, the LETR has witnessed firsthand the positive impact of Special Olympics programs. If you have a loved one with an intellectual disability and/or autism, we want to help connect you with this incredible community.

Let us help you take the first step—because when we support each other, everyone wins.

  • 1 Years Special Olympics Registration (8yo and above- no maximum age limit) valued at $100
  • 1 Club Uniform Polo valued at $30
  • 1 LETR Merchandise Pack valued at $50
  • 1 FREE ticket to The Angela Taylor Memorial Run/Walk Blue Ribbon Foundation Fun Run in the first year of being a Special Olympics Athlete (Value $38)
This annual Fun Run is a mid year social event completed alongside the LETR team in support of another police affiliated charity.  It’s a great way to connect, give back, and get involved.

What are some of the available benefits for a Special Olympics Athlete?

Fun, friendship, connection, a sense of identity and team belonging, improved fitness and health, enhanced social and communication skills, and opportunities to develop leadership and general life skills. Athletes can take part in an awards program, the Athlete Leadership Program, and enjoy a vibrant calendar of club-based activities, Christmas parties, and social events. Importantly, Special Olympics also provides a structured competition pathway, giving athletes the chance to represent their club at State & National events and even their country at International and World Games events.

  • Inclusive Sport in Schools: This program integrates students with and without intellectual disabilities and/or autism, promoting inclusive participation in sports within the school setting
  • Inclusive Sport Academy: This online platform provides resources and training for coaches, teachers, and community members to effectively deliver sports and physical activity programs to people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism
  • Affiliate Program: Through partnerships with various sports providers, the Affiliate Program supports the creation of inclusive environments for athletes with intellectual disabilities and/or autism, offering regular participation, competition pathways, and skill development opportunities.

The Athlete Leadership Program, Athlete Mentoring and Athlete Leadership Awards are highlighted on our website.

Engagement with Special Olympics Victoria has additional benefits for carers, families and volunteers in addition to the above.  The connection, support and fulfilment experienced by those involved is equally important to note.

Participant Responsibilities:

Event organisers do not possess knowledge of individual participants’ physical abilities or disabilities. Each participant is responsible for determining their own fitness and capacity to engage safely in the event.

On-Duty Status for Victoria Police Employees:

Victoria Police employees may attend LETR events in an “on duty” capacity, but this status must be granted and confirmed in advance. In most cases, securing “on duty” status is the responsibility of the individual participant and must be sought through the appropriate command structure. Event organisers may facilitate this process where explicitly stated.

By participating in LETR events, participants acknowledge these terms and
accept all associated risks inherent in the activities.
