Matt helps light the way to Berlin

The Flame of Hope is lit and the Torch, secure in the hands of its “Guardians”, is on its way to Berlin to launch the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 .

THIS IS IT, FOLKS !

It was an emotional day for our chief Matt Volk, who flew to Athens to experience the ancient Olympic torch-lighting ceremony and to join fellow Guardians of the Flame on a Torch Run through the busy streets of Athens.

In a traditional Olympic ritual dating back thousands of years, the Flame of Hope was accompanied by eleven women wearing traditional Greek dress into Athens’ famed Zappeoin Hall where it was lit by the rays of the sun.

It was then that Matt and the international members of the LETR World Games Final Leg – and some pretty inspirational athletes – took the Torch on its final run to Berlin.

For Matt, it was a “once-in-a-lifetime experience”.

“To be able to stand in the imposing structure of Zappeoin Hall and to watch as the Flame lighting ceremony takes place is just surreal,” he said.

“To see the sun light the Flame of Hope was an incredibly powerful moment and one that I will be forever grateful for.”

Enjoy the experience, Matt.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN.
